so, we invite you to read and join our story:
For several years, six small churches in Northern California have been praying about starting a new church.
St.Patrick’s Day 2008, Ven Smith - the worship and college minister at one of those churches - visited a friend in Seattle who happened to be going to a party on St.Patrick’s Day.  He asked if his friend could come along but neglected to mention this friend was vegan.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Tucker was finishing up her second master’s degree in theology (MA in Religion and MDiv) and wondering where and how God would use her.  She felt a strange call to leave her much loved home of Seattle and go to Northern California - even though she had only even been to Northern California twice in her life.
In the midst of all this uncertainty, she put together her yearly St.Patrick’s Day party with diligence and a hospitable heart.  When a stranger asked if there was anything vegan, she tried to find him something and he told her that he knew of a recipe for vegan cornbeef.
Somehow a conversation about vegan cornbeef lead to Ven asking Rebecca if she would be interested in starting a Quaker church in Northern California.  Six months later [and after much prayer and thought], she arrived in Sacramento and began the world of cultivating a new community in Midtown Sacramento.
From October until April, a small group of people met in Rebecca's tiny apartment, dreaming about this new community.  They came up with ten core valuesten commitments, and an ethos for our community.
Then, in April, Midtown Friends moved into our meeting house on 1812 J Street, suite 16.  On Oct 4th, 2008, we had our official opening service at Fremont Park.
We continue to meet at 1812 J Street and are welcoming new people to this on-going story every week.  And the story continues...
now you have read our story...
